Digital detox is a way to reduce stress and focus on social interaction in the physical world, by refraining from using smartphones, tablets and computers for a period of time. Incidentally, traveling to Iceland is also a good way to reduce stress, so three locals have now started a tour company that combines the two.
“We are a health-, wellness- and people-oriented travel agency operating mainly in the spectacular nature of West-Iceland” says Aldís Arna Tryggvadóttir, founder and CEO of Iceland Health & Travel.
“We provide a unique opportunity for you to step back for a moment, put aside your ego, your stressful lifestyle and digital devices and try a new way of travelling and recharging. In our tours you are not allowed to talk about work or job titles, in order to get the real break and vacation you need. Instead you get to be yourself and do more people-oriented things. You‘ll reconnect to the nature, to yourself and to other people.”
In each tour they offer physical activities such as walking, hiking, running and floating. Their guests also focus on inward thinking by meditating, outdoor coaching and listening to useful tips regarding f.ex. healthy lifestyle, the meaning of your life, the greatness within you and the optimal use of digital devices.
“We offer unique experiences such as relaxing in a natural pool, drinking water directly from a river and jumping in, having a barbeque in a more than a century old barn with the locals, singing and having fun with the guitar player. You can even ride a horse in the midnight sun with us. Thus our tours are very people-oriented and aimed at resulting in a more balanced, happy and meaningful life by having a healthier relationship with digital devices, other people and yourself,” says Aldís Arna.
Iceland Health & Travel is a family business, run by Aldís Arna, her husband Sigurður Guðmundsson and her mother Aldís Aðalbjarnardóttir.
“As a family and very close friends we have always dreamed of founding a company together. My husband is a sports-nut and enthusiastic about people’s health and well-being. He was born in Hvanneyri in Borgarfjörður so he knows this area well and loves West Iceland. He has been the organizer of large and small sport events all around Iceland, including national tournaments and is him self a former champion in swimming. My mom on the other had is a travel guide and has been for more than two decades. She still enjoys every moment of it and her passion for Iceland, the country, culture and history is inspiring to us”
The passionate Iceland Health & Travel team has a background in tourism, sports, public health, business and coaching.
“In our minds the best way to reconnect is to disconnect so we will turn off the internet and turn on your life instead! As a result, be ready to go from blue to blooming and become the best version of yourself! We‘ll stop and stay, pause and play and last but not least, live every moment. Life is always worth it. We look forward to warmly welcoming you to our country and to introducing you to the Icelandic nature and nation,” says Aldís Arna.
